Artist Statement:

Katie Davis is a mixed media painter. Her color choice and visual language are in direct relationship with her materials, which are sourced directly from every day life, such as pizza box lids, curtains, textiles, and furniture. Katie's work uses formalism and abstraction while holding tension with whimsy and play. Magical realism and feminine mythology also inform her work. She often uses contorted mother figures and animals, like a two headed cat or a transparent dog, blurring the boundaries between these figures and the patterns and negative space they are held within. Katie is interested in the breakdown of positive and negative space within a painting, a metaphor for her views of the ever shifting memories and experiences we frame our personal histories around.
