Artist Statement:

This piece is part of a series of studies exploring the actual and ever-changing color and texture of our natural skies and clouds that quietly pass overhead or are seen in a distance. The piece is a rendering of evening light that was actually observed. This kind of breathtaking and inspiring natural effect only lasts for a few minutes, sometimes only seconds - cannot be described and must only be seen. Naturally occurring colors of our sky have the power to ignite the senses and beauty that exists beyond our control can make us feel connected to something larger. As with this piece, the idea is capturing this special moment in time that gives the observer on the ground a sensation of lift.

Artist Bio:

Kris Harrison is design professional and co-owner of Orbit Design in the Short North Arts District here in Columbus Ohio. A graduate of Columbus College of Art & Design, Kris is inspired by a range of styles from vintage photography to the effortless brush strokes of Sargent, the ethereal color of Maxfield Parrish to O'Keeffe. Her sky and cloud studies have her continuously looking upward and observing much like a meteorologist watching for the next storm front to roll in from the west. She is also a drone pilot which requires an interest in aviation - these interests dovetail perfectly with her ongoing series.
