I first caught painting fever in high school art class and honed my passion at Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH, and Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. Oil paint is my primary medium; my inspiration come from a variety of sources and centers on giving each brushstroke room to stretch. The paint is handled alla prima and the layers of image build up as brushstrokes are pulled across the surface. Each painting’s energy comes from the material capture, or accretion, of oil paint and how the individual brushstrokes layer and accumulate into a composition. My emphasis is having the edge-to-edge brushstrokes stretch the underlayer colors into each other to create a more abstract, blended composition. This teases apart the paint on the canvas surface, a concept I enthusiastically pursue.
I have been represented since 2014 by Sharon Weiss Gallery, in the Columbus Short North Arts District. Group exhibitions include the Butler Institute of American Art National Midyear Exhibition, Youngstown, OH, in 2018, 2021, and 2024; the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition in 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2023; the Springfield Museum of Art Juried Members' Exhibition, Springfield, OH, in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024; the Mansfield Arts Center Annual May Show, Mansfield, OH, in 2022; The Dairy Barn Gallery, Athens, OH, in 2019, 2024; Bryn Du Annual Art Show, Granville, OH, in 2023; and Cerulean Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition, Philadelphia, PA, in 2024.
