My photos and other art are disparate in style and media (I also do linocut and collage) but often have in common a desire to preserve things that might have otherwise have been destroyed. Sometimes I will keep something from going to a landfill by refashioning it and using it in a collage. Sometimes I will take a photo of something not much longer for this world and try to show it in all of its beauty or charm before it's taken from us. So many resources are destroyed, filling oceans and landfills when they could still be used. So many beautiful buildings and other places are torn down in favor of entirely functional replacements with no charm. Places and items that made memories are destroyed and long lived businesses we relied on for years close permanently. In this era of constant anxiety, fear and stress, it's especially sad that we lose touchstones that brought us joy or emotional comfort. Many of my photos are meant to be portals that can take us back to happier times.
