My paintings are directly influenced by the landscape of the city in which I currently reside – Columbus, Ohio. Simply put, I like to paint places I know. I want people to walk away from my work with a sense of community and connection to place. I find joy in painting familiar places and depicting the melancholic beauty of urban midwestern landscapes. Beyond capturing the essence and feeling of a location each painting is an opportunity to explore color. Working from my own original photographs, I recreate the mood and atmosphere of a location with an expressive color palette and dramatic composition. I am particularly interested in capturing light, temperature and reflection.
Jessica Wojtasek grew up in a small town near Wheeling, West Virginia. From a young age she had the unique opportunity to work with a mentor and began painting with oils, which ignited her passion for art and set her on her current path. For her formal education, Jessica attended the Columbus College of Art and Design where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Since 2016, Jessica has been a member artist with Studios on High Gallery in the Short North Arts District. She can be found painting on-site at the gallery on select weekends each month, and her work is featured in collections globally.
