Artist Statement:

“I have been working with variations of acrylic painting for over 8 years and experimenting with various techniques to create a unique marriage and interplay of art and science. The observed effect is created by changing the density of layered acrylic paints and oils through various chemical additives. After the layering, a series of soothing waves and cells is achieved by heating the medium with a blowtorch close to the point of ignition, further changing the densities in a drastic manner. In doing so, much of the oil vaporizes as the paint rises creating a series of delicate macro and micro patterns. These cells and structures are further mechanically pulled by hand and stretched using various putty knives. The results are reminiscent of ocean waves, planetary storms, and the repetitive patterns found in living organisms.”
