I’m definitely trying to evoke an emotion or memory with this piece. For me it changes every time I look at it. Sometimes it makes me feel sad and alone. Sometimes it makes me feel tranquil and safe. Sometimes it brings back teenage memories of hot summer nights and girlfriends, and breaking into neighborhood pools to cool off. Other times it presses on me and takes my breath away. The older I get, this visceral response to a piece is becoming more and more important to me.
How does it make you feel? What does it make you remember? Can you feel the water and the weight of the darkness?
