Leonardo Kaplan’s work navigates the tensions between emotional perception and concrete reality, exploring how cultural narratives shape our understanding of place, identity, and the natural world. Drawing from printed ephemera, personal photographs, and found materials, his layered photographic collages and photo-sculptural objects form enigmatic compositions that challenge viewers to confront the instability of meaning. Often referencing queer histories, ecological systems, and the dissonance of media-saturated culture, Kaplan’s practice examines the fragility of sanity and integrity in a moment defined by paranoia, distortion, and shifting truths. His works trace the ways in which visual experiences are mediated, corrupted, and reconstructed. Across his practice, Kaplan balances intimacy and estrangement, offering viewers a space to reflect on the emotional and material textures that shape contemporary life.
