I am a storyteller with my sacred marks and I am honoring the authentic journey of a beautiful trans woman, Staley Monroe. As a young child, Stacey recognized she was trapped in a boy's body. As early as the 1st grade, she understood "body vs. spirit". She faced an abusive father, poor counseling, and self doubt. But she understood that, "Truth is my focus, part of my truth is I am a transgender woman." I hope this colorful assemblage contribution to the Art for Life auction will increase awareness of the LGBT community's need for comprehensive health. And, as many of us know, "Art Saves Lives."
I am a 74-year-old artist, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. I have created my art since very early in my childhood. Professionally, I have created my art for over 35 years. and have exhibited my art quilts, books, and mixed-media works in Australia, New Zealand, France (Paris), and our beautiful America. I truly believe, "Art Saves Lives". I have worked with young artists of all ages, homeless and traumatized artists, survivors of human trafficking, and adults with disabilities. I respectfully hope my assemblage will open minds/hearts and widen lenses of acceptance of all my future viewers.
