Encaustics have won me over as a medium of choice. They've allowed me to convey luminous, tactile and dramatic finishes that excite me and draw viewers in for more. The first question they ask is, "What is that?', and the second is, "Can I touch it?" Molten, transparent layers allow me to be subtle and evoke emotional themes, while stark, opaque sections can produce drama when needed. I try to present feelings and moods rather than reality and representation, often abstracting when necessary. Most work is set on fire with shellac to make organic, lacey embellishments that can't be produced otherwise. My work has been accepted into state, local and nationally juried shows, including the permanent collection at the Museum of Encaustic Art near Santa Fe, N.M. I've taught encaustics professionally for eight years to adults in classes and workshops. Now I am represented in shows at Marcia Evans Gallery.
